About Avontail

Meet Avontail! This tiny, high-energy kitten got her name after being rescued from the streets of Chicago's Avondale neighborhood. On October 8, 2026, our Executive Director, Jenny, and Mission Advancement staff member, Danielle, had a close call when Avontail darted in front of their car on Belmont, a busy street. Amazed she survived, they searched the area and managed to find her by following her adorable meows. After feeding her some cat food, they couldn't trap her that night. The next day, they returned and were delighted to find Avontail chirping happily at the same spot. This time, she was easy to catch as she continued to eat without a care in the world. Plans are also in place to find her littermates and mother, spotted nearby. Avontail is up-to-date on her FVRCP vaccines and will need to be spayed soon, for which we require a $100 refundable deposit. This deposit will be returned to you once her spay appointment is completed. You can visit her at our Heartland Facility; we welcome visitors Thursday to Sunday, no appointment necessary. Join us in giving Avontail the loving home she deserves! What are you waiting for? Apply today!
