Meet Aksel, an 11-year-old German Shepherd gentleman residing in Corvallis, OR. Weighing around 65 pounds, Aksel is the perfect loyal companion who prefers to follow you around and keep you company throughout the day. He has been a loving member of his family for most of his life, learning to be an excellent housemate. Housetrained and polite, Aksel rarely barks, understands plenty of commands, and walks beautifully on a leash. While his hearing isn’t what it used to be, he’s smart and can respond well to hand signals and even facial expressions. A gentle soul, Aksel gets along with children, dogs, and cats, showing remarkable trust even around small creatures like chickens. Though he generally enjoys the company of other dogs, he appreciates a little personal space when passing unfamiliar dogs during walks. Aksel still loves daily strolls and short adventures, but about 30 minutes of walking is sufficient now due to some arthritis in his hips. He can manage stairs and hop into the car on his own, but having some soft rugs or carpeting around his home would help him feel comfortable. His ideal home would be a quieter environment where he can enjoy the companionship of his people. He can stay home alone without causing trouble but would thrive with a couple of short walks a day and plenty of snuggles, preferably in the bedroom or on the couch. Sadly, his family must relocate overseas, and they want to find a new loving home for him so he can enjoy his golden years comfortably.
