About Sparky

Meet Sparky! Sometimes the bravest little dogs are those who need extra time to open their hearts. Sparky is a 5-year-old Chihuahua mix, weighing just 7 pounds. His journey has been challenging. He came to Dogworks after being surrendered to a local shelter, where he lived in a truck cab with seven other dogs. At first, the world was overwhelming for him. He was frightened and uncomfortable with being touched and spent most of his time tucked away in a crate for safety. His foster provided the time and patience Sparky needed to come out of his shell. Initially, he needed a leash for comfort when coming in and out of the house. Gradually, things began to improve. Today, Sparky follows his foster around the house, enjoys being part of the daily routine, and sometimes even hops onto their lap. Respecting his boundaries will be crucial as he continues to build his confidence. Sparky is crate trained, sleeps soundly at night, has had very few accidents, and walks beautifully on a leash. He currently shares his foster home with other dogs but hasn’t shown significant interest in them. He could thrive in a household with other respectful dogs or as the only pet. What Sparky truly needs is a family that understands trust takes time. He may not be the type who loves to be carried around, but imagine the joy of having a dog who chooses to follow you simply for companionship. Could you be Sparky’s safe place? He deserves a loving home where he can grow, feel secure, and appreciate the little joys of life. If you can offer him patience and love, Sparky may be the perfect companion for you. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $350. Applicants must reside within one hour of Toledo, Ohio.
