About Big Bear

Big Bear is a 3-year-old male Akita on the lookout for a loving forever home. Recently surrendered, he came to us very emaciated, weighing just 57 lbs. Since then, he's made impressive progress, gaining at least 20 lbs and aiming to return closer to his optimal weight of nearly 100 lbs. Bear displays food aggression likely stemming from his past hardships, which means a home without children is essential. While he would thrive with an adopter experienced in Akitas, he may also get along with other dogs if their temperaments match. Though he can be reluctant during vet visits, Bear is a good boy at heart, needing a gentle approach or sedatives for certain procedures. He’s neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and heartworm tested negative. His adoption fee is $150. Visit the shelter to meet him, or reach out with questions. Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.
