About Nellie

Nellie is living proof that the quiet ones are worth getting to know. Born into an accidental litter of seven in South LA, Nellie spent her early months in a dirt backyard with little human interaction and had never been inside a home until she arrived at the rescue. Now, she confidently claims both the couch and the bed as her territory. At around 7 months and 50 pounds, Nellie is still adjusting to her new life. Initially, she may hide and observe from her safe spot until she feels comfortable. Once she warms up, her playful side shines through, often showcasing her love for flying toys through excited tosses into the air. She adores giving kisses and lightly paws at her humans for attention. Her foster said it best: "She's basically a new dog" once she gets to know you. Nellie enjoys a mix of quiet time alone with her toys and cuddles with trusted humans and dogs. Her playful antics include surprise licks to her foster brother’s head, hoping for a play session. She thrives around other friendly dogs who can mentor her as she learns. She needs a patient adopter who allows her to meet new people on her own terms and supports her exploration of the world around her. A home without young children would be ideal, as sudden movements can still startle her. A yard would be a great addition for her to play and discover comfortably.
