About Horton

Meet Horton! This lovely pit bull mix came in as a stray on September 7th. Although he’s around 5 years old, Horton is a distinguished gentleman who prefers to take his time getting to know people. At first glance, he might look at you with skepticism as if you’re trying to sell him an extended warranty. But don’t let that fool you; this handsome guy is working hard to gain confidence after coming to the shelter very emaciated. He’s almost reached his goal weight, and you can really see him grow stronger little by little. Initially, Horton found the world overwhelming. He was extremely shy and wary, especially of the leash, which he viewed as a suspicious rope. However, he’s made incredible progress! Horton is now learning to walk on a leash and starting to realize that new faces aren't as scary as he thought, especially with the help of treats. Giving him a calm voice and something delicious helps him adjust and slowly warms him up to the idea of forming connections. Horton needs a patient, calm family that will allow him to settle in at his own pace. He isn’t looking for a loud, chaotic household—he wants an environment where he can feel secure and blossom into the dog he truly is. In return, you'll have the privilege of watching this sweet, sensitive guy unfold into a loving companion. Just imagine having this refined gentleman lounging in your home, quietly judging your life choices! Come meet Horton at the Richland County Dog Shelter in Mansfield, OH, and don’t forget to bring treats—he expects nothing less! What are you waiting for? Apply today!
