About Petunyah

Petunyah might sound like a delicate flower, but this short-and-stout bully breed is full of personality and heart. Weighing in at about 39 pounds, she's approximately 2 years old and came to us as a stray. Her beginning in rescue was challenging; she required emergency surgery for a hysterectomy shortly after her arrival. While we can't determine her past, we see that some things still startle her, and she needs a family who will provide the time and patience she needs to truly feel safe. Petunyah doesn't rush to strangers. In fact, she can be nervous around new people, especially when they reach for her or move close to her neck. Sudden movements may frighten her. Thankfully, with consistent training and treats, she has made strides with her foster family, learning that leashes and collars are part of a safe routine. Once she trusts you, Petunyah reveals her sweet nature. She's playful, affectionate, and smart. Her favorite activities include chasing balls and lounging beside you on the couch. When she plays fetch, she interprets it as β€œthank you for this ball; I will now keep it!” Petunyah is crate trained and settles well once inside, though she may need a bit of encouragement. She’s also nearly house trained, showing impressive progress. While she has been friendly to dogs through a gate, she hasn't had direct introductions yet, and we prefer feeding her separately from other pets. This sweet girl is not a first-time dog; she requires an experienced owner equipped with knowledge of canine behavior. It's crucial for her new family to understand that trust-building takes time. Ideally, she should be placed in a home with older children, around 15 and up, who can respect her boundaries. Petunyah has overcome significant challenges and is ready for a stable, loving environment where she can thrive. Finding the right fit for her is essential. If you’re ready to give her the safety and consistency she deserves, this could be the beginning of a wonderful friendship!
