About Josie

Meet Josie, our longest resident and the most overlooked dog at the shelter. She's a prime example of the challenges many black dogs face due to stigma. This sweet girl arrived in September 2025 and is a 3-year-old, 35lb Pittie mix with a bright personality and a loving heart. Josie has a lot to offer and would thrive as your only pet. She’s housebroken and crate trained, knowing commands like 'sit' and 'crate'. While she’s an excellent walking buddy, she can get a bit excited during greetings, so continued leash training is ideal. Her love languages? Adventure! Josie enjoys walks, trips to the beach, playing fetch, and engaging with Benebones and frozen Kongs. When it’s time to relax, she loves to cuddle on your lap, keeping a watchful eye over her yard. Josie needs an active, loving home, ideally with humans who appreciate both adventures and downtime. Older kids (13+) are best for her, as her exuberance might knock little ones over. A fenced yard is preferred, although she might adapt to an apartment with the right plan.
