Meet Basil! Somewhere along the way, Basil learned what it felt like to be forgotten. When he was found, all he had left of his old life was a tattered piece of rope tied around his tiny neck, a makeshift collar that no one ever bothered to replace. No home. No one looking for him. Just a scared puppy left to fend for himself, wondering if anyone would ever come. Then we did. What we found, once the rope came off and the fear began to fade, was remarkable. Despite everything he endured, Basil’s coat is healthy, his eyes are bright, and his spirit remains intact. It’s as if he knew deep down that something better was on the horizon. At just six months old, Basil is a blank slate in the best way possible. He’s shown signs of being partially housebroken and crate trained, impressively holding it through the night without a single accident. He walks right out of his crate, does his business like a champ, and dives into playtime with a joy and gratitude rare for his age. He walks well on a leash and is affectionate, intelligent, and observant. He does get a little vocal when he wants attention, particularly if you’re busy with something else, so he’d thrive in a home that can truly engage with him. Basil would also do well with a canine companion, either older and easygoing or one closer in age and energy. From a rope around his neck to a puppy full of promise, Basil’s story is one of resilience. He’s ready to write a whole new chapter filled with love and safety in a family that will never let him go.
