About Boots

Meet Boots! Named after his adorable white-tipped paws, Boots is a shepherd/spitz mix sporting a warm gray coat. At around 12-18 months old and weighing about 50 pounds, he still has the playful energy of a puppy waiting to explore the world. Boots started his journey in Houston, TX, where he found himself on the euthanasia list at BARC after just two days as a stray. Terrified and avoidant of people, his chances looked bleak. However, thanks to the compassion of his rescuers, he was given a second chance. With time, patience, and love, Boots has begun to come out of his protective shell. Now thriving in a foster home in St. Paul, Minnesota, Boots is learning what it means to be a loved house dog. He gets along great with other dogs and reads social cues well. While he would blossom in a home with a confident canine companion, he can also be happy as the only dog. Once he trusts you, Boots reveals his affectionate side. He may be shy at first but shows love through playful little nibbles, which his foster mom is helping him redirect to chew toys. This clever boy learns quickly, already knowing how to sit by observing his foster siblings. Boots enjoys walks, loves to play, and has a bit of prey drive toward squirrels and rabbits. He settles nicely afterward, enjoying long naps as well. With his active nature, Boots would do best in a home with a securely fenced yard and ample opportunities for mental and physical enrichment. Having been around cats without issue, his gentle disposition also suggests he could do well with respectful children, given proper introductions and supervision. Boots has come so far from the scared shelter dog he once was. All he needs now is a patient, loving family to help him continue building confidence and discover the joys of life.
