Santiago is a hero in the eyes of at least one little kitten, thanks to his remarkable journey to safety. He was found as a stray behind a restaurant, likely abandoned with food and muddy water. Despite his tough start, Santiago's personality shines through; he was friendly and easygoing even when panting in distress upon being rescued. He walks well on a leash and transitions easily between the truck and his kennel, showing off his sweet demeanor. Since arriving at the shelter, he met a neutered male friend and immediately interacted with playful bows and energetic zoomies. Santiago is a delightful mix of shyness and sweetness, quickly warming up to playtime and affection. It's important to do meet-and-greets with other dogs and kids, but there's no data on how he handles cats at this time. Besides saving a kitten's eye with a unique serum from his blood, he shows that true heroes sometimes need saving themselves. Now, he's ready to find his forever family. Every dog at the shelter is spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. Santiago's adoption fee is $80, but a special is available until August 15, bringing it down to just $40. If you wish to take your new friend home safely, please bring a collar and leash or purchase a combo for $15. The Iredell County Animal Services and Control Department is located at 430 Bristol Drive in Statesville, NC, and is open for adoptions Monday to Friday from 12-5pm and Saturday from 11am-2pm.
