Meet Monte! This 7–8 year old, 55 lb Australian Cattle Dog has spent most of his life simply surviving. When he came to us, he was in terrible shape, never neutered, with wounds all over his body. He likely never lived inside a home before. Today, Monte is a whole new dog, and we are excited to share his journey with you. What Monte wants most is simple: a soft bed, a consistent routine, and a loving family. He has some bow-legged back legs due to the neglect he endured, but our vets confirmed he is otherwise a normal dog—just with a unique walking style. His sparse teeth are a reminder of his hard past, but they only add to his charm. Picture this nearly toothless dog trying to play with a toy—it's downright adorable. Monte doesn’t seek a hyperactive environment; he’s laid back and almost fully house trained, thriving with a set routine. He’s crate trained and loves snuggling in his cozy bed at night. Super easygoing, he plays well with other dogs and absolutely adores affection, welcoming cuddles with open paws. While he can get a bit mouthy when asking for attention, it's part of his playful, affectionate nature, reminiscent of all the puppyhood he missed out on. He’s been wonderful with kids, including toddlers, though we recommend older, respectful children who understand herding breeds—his mouthy play style suits them best. Monte deserves all the love after years of just surviving. He is currently fostered in Houston, TX, and available for adoption across the country. His $600 adoption fee includes transport to his forever home. Monte is finishing heartworm treatment and will be ready for transport in late September.
