About Gertrude
Meet Gertrude, affectionately known as Gertie, a nine-year-old Persian who has truly overcome so much. When she first arrived at UPAWS, Gertie was in such terrible shape that she could barely move due to severe matting. Fearful and frail, she would hiss and scream to keep everyone at bay, which was heartbreaking to witness. With time and patience, she started to heal. It took weeks of gentle care and baby steps before Gertie felt secure enough for us to remove her painful mats. Now, she’s blossoming almost daily. Gertie eagerly peeks out from her cat condo, purring happily, and even dances with joy when she sees you. Her coat is slowly regrowing into a sweet layer of peach fuzz, signaling her progress. Gertie thrives in a calm, quiet environment and would do best as the only pet in a home where she is cherished. Potential adopters should be understanding and patient, realizing that earning her trust may take some time. She is currently on Hill’s k/d, a prescription food designed for kidney health, so her new family will need to have an established vet for her ongoing care. Gertie may take a little longer to adjust than some cats, but for the right person, forming that bond and watching her flourish will be a rewarding experience.
