Petey is an approximately 3-year-old, 60-pound dog who spent an entire year being overlooked in the shelter before finally getting his chance to experience life in a home. Now that he's out, he's showing everyone what an absolute sweetheart he is and is ready to find his forever family! He is housebroken and does a great job letting you know when he needs to go outside. He is also very well mannered in his crate and happily sleeps and eats his meals there. Petey hasn't taken many car rides yet, but he has done well on the ones he's been on. Petey benefits from a daily walk and does pretty well on leash. He may pull a little when he gets excited or interested in people and animals, but he responds well to guidance and correction. He's a medium-energy guy who is just as happy playing endless rounds of tennis ball fetch as he is curling up on the couch for TV time. He's working hard on his manners and commands and is very excited to announce that he now knows sit! Petey is dog friendly and has been getting along wonderfully with a similar-sized dog in his home. He also passed his cat testing at the shelter, although he does not currently live with cats. Petey has also been great with kids! Because he is a big, enthusiastic guy who can get excited and jump up, we think he would do best with children around 4-5 years old or older who are comfortable around larger dogs. He has done very well with kids ages 7 and 10. Petey is affectionate, playful, eager to learn, and has a wonderful balance of fun energy and couch-potato sweetness.
