She's food motivated, which aids in her building trust during calm interactions. Once Buttercup feels comfortable with her favorite people, she actively seeks affection, asking for pets and chin scratches. She's a sensitive soul, needing time to process new situations and to approach them at her own pace. When she feels secure, she can be exceptionally loving with those she trusts. Having recently mastered leash walking, Buttercup reliably follows her handlers in and out of her kennel. However, she can become flustered if overwhelmed. The ideal family will be attentive to her needs, providing gentle and predictable interactions, and allowing her to develop trust without pressure. Understanding her signals and giving her space when necessary will help Buttercup thrive. Buttercup enjoys the company of other dogs, communicating her boundaries effectively. She appreciates respectful canine companions who can recognize when she needs some downtime. She has completed heartworm treatment while under the care of NMDR and may need some follow-up vet care for continued health. An in-person meet and greet at our shelter is essential to ensure a great fit between Buttercup and her future family.
