Though he is still refining his potty training, Sarge is known for being very intelligent and has a few basic commands down. Currently, he resides in Hobart, IN.

Meet Sarge! This playful and spunky guy is not just a handsome face; he gives the best hugs too. Sarge came to us as an owner surrender, having spent his entire life behind a four-foot fence in a backyard. After six months in foster care receiving heartworm treatment, he's now cleared and ready for a loving home. His foster family describes him as energetic and brilliant, but he's looking for experienced owners who can keep up with his lively spirit. Sarge enjoys tug-of-war and fetch, and he adores his Kong teddy bears, though they often end up destuffed. He thrives on activity and has the potential to excel in dog sports like disc or nose work. Being a working dog, Sarge needs a job to keep his brilliant mind engaged. Excess energy can lead to destructive behaviors, so a home that can provide structure and companionship is essential. He’s sensitive to the energy around him; therefore, he would do best with a calm and confident family. Loud noises, such as fireworks and thunder, frighten him, and he can become overly playful and mouthy when he gets excited. He is still learning to enjoy belly rubs and affection but has made great strides. Sarge is crate-trained and knows several commands, including "sit," "wait," and "outside." While he's working on his potty training, he may have the occasional accident if he can’t get outside immediately. He’s been adapting to living with other dogs and is generally non-aggressive, provided others approach him calmly. He interacts well with children aged three to fifteen but may be best suited for a home with older kids. Given his strong prey drive, a home without small mammals, including cats, is ideal.
