Every now and then, life presents you with a math problem. For example: Young couple + tiny apartment + one young, energetic dog = "Aww!" Young couple + tiny apartment + TWO young, energetic dogs = "Whew." Young couple + tiny apartment + two young, energetic dogs + surprise baby = "Well. That escalated quickly." And that is how Chili came to Animal Aid Society. Chili is about a year old and approaches life with the cheerful confidence of someone who has never once considered that perhaps the party's not being held specifically for him. He's playful, affectionate, house-trained, eager to please, and somehow manages to be both delightfully energetic and remarkably well-mannered. He'll happily zoom around, play with you, and then settle in for some serious snuggling. Basically, Chili has mastered the difficult art of being fun without being exhausting. And then there are the toys. One of the first things we do when a new dog arrives is offer toys, because nothing says "Welcome to the shelter" quite like a small mountain of squeaky objects. Chili took this very seriously. He sprinted to the toy pile, selected one, and proudly brought it to us. Then he ran back and got another. And another. And another. It had very strong "little boy bringing his mom every dandelion he can find in the yard" energy. He wasn't hoarding them. He wanted to share them. Every treasure apparently required immediate presentation to the humans, because Chili's operating philosophy seems to be that happiness is considerably better when everybody is involved.
