Penny — 1 year old Great Pyrenees Local Surrender Penny is a beautiful, sweet 1 year old Great Pyrenees who is still learning that the world is a safe place. She can be timid at first, but once she trusts you, her personality really starts to shine. She is smart, incredibly sweet, and very people-oriented. Penny loves being near her humans and is happiest when she can simply hang out with you. Her foster has spent plenty of time working outside with her, and Penny is perfectly content to lay nearby and supervise. The same goes for inside—if she can see her person or has other dogs around, she settles nicely. A confident canine companion would be ideal for Penny. Another friendly dog helps her feel secure and gives her confidence as she navigates new situations. Penny is already doing wonderfully with her basic manners: * Crate trained — she may whine for a few minutes, but settles in under 5 minutes * Sleeps peacefully in her crate from around 9 PM until 6–6:30 AM * Lets you know when she needs to go outside by whining/barking * Does very well on a leash with a slip lead * Very responsive to her handlers * Not a flight risk once she knows and trusts you She has been around cats, small children, and men. She is curious about cats but has not shown a tendency to chase them. She can be timid around men and young children initially, but warms up quickly when treats are involved. And yes... Penny definitely has some classic Great Pyrenees in her! She will let you know when strangers arrive at the house and has that natural instinct to protect her people and her “herd.” Otherwise, she is a pretty calm girl. Penny came to us underweight and had some hair loss from fleas and contact dermatitis, but she is gaining weight well and healing beautifully. She is on the smaller side for a Great Pyrenees and may end up around 70 lbs at a healthy weight. And then there is the POOP DANCE. When Penny has to go while outside, she runs back and forth and does these hilarious vertical jumps on all four feet. It is impossible not to laugh. Penny would absolutely love a home with some space to explore—a farm would be wonderful, but she could also thrive with someone who has a fenced yard or property where she can safely enjoy the outdoors. A fence would be ideal, especially for a Great Pyrenees, but what Penny really wants is a person who will let her be part of their life. She doesn’t need constant entertainment. She doesn’t need to be running all day. She just wants to be with you. If you’re looking for a gentle, loyal, slightly goofy Great Pyrenees who will happily lay at your feet while you work and then do a celebratory poop dance when it’s time to go outside...
