Meet Davidson, a 3-year-old Labrador mix, affectionately known as Davie. Weighing in at 53 pounds, he’s a sweet and gentle boy who is just beginning to discover that the world can be a safe place. Davidson came to us extremely underweight and marked by the emotional scars of past abuse. He needs a patient and understanding adopter to help him build his confidence. Timid and easily startled, Davie tends to shut down when frightened, displaying fear rather than aggression. Calm guidance and positive reinforcement suit him best. Although he can be nervous around men, he’s made progress with his foster dad, accepting pets and gradually working on outdoor leash walking. Recently, he has started to wag his tail and even show a little courage with a tiny gallop. In his foster home, he’s shown friendly interest in the resident puppies, eagerly sniffing their noses from the safety of his pen. Davidson is crate trained and has done well without any accidents. To feel secure, he requires a safe environment, so his new family must be diligent with leashing and gates. Davidson is a gentle soul who needs patience and kindness to continue blossoming.
