About Boots

Meet Boots! Named for his adorable white-tipped paws, Boots is a sweet shepherd/spitz mix with a warm gray coat. At around 12-18 months old and weighing about 50 pounds, he's full of playful energy and enthusiasm for life. Boots was rescued from a difficult start in Houston, TX, where he narrowly escaped euthanasia at BARC after just two days as a stray. Initially terrified and shy, his journey to confidence has been supported by loving care and patience. Now in foster care in St. Paul, Minnesota, he's slowly embracing the joys of being a pet. He thrives with other dogs and would benefit from a confident canine companion to help him navigate new experiences. Boots is gentle and affectionate once he warms up, though he might be shy with newcomers at first. Sometimes he expresses his affection through playful nibbles, something his foster mom is guiding him to redirect to appropriate chew toys. A smart dog, Boots is food motivated and eager to learn. He’s already picked up the command 'sit' just by observing other dogs in his foster home. Continued training and structure will be important for him as he adjusts. Boots enjoys his walks, loves to play, and while he has a bit of prey drive towards squirrels and rabbits, he settles down nicely for long naps afterward. He's been around cats and does well with them, and his gentle nature makes him a good candidate for a home with respectful children, given proper introductions. Boots has made incredible progress from his frightened shelter beginnings. Now, he simply needs a loving family who can help him build his confidence and live life to the fullest.
