At first, Tonka can be a little reserved with newcomers, preferring to take things at his own pace. But once you earn his trust, you'll have a lifelong friend. His loyalty is unwavering, and he loves being by your side for life's adventures. Tonka enjoys the company of other dogs and could thrive with a canine companion. We're not sure how he feels about cats, so caution is advised. Given his preference for a calm setting, a home with older children would suit him best. He has shown some resource guarding around food, but he's been making progress and needs a family committed to continuing positive reinforcement training. Tonka also requires assistance with learning basic manners, leash walking, and commands. A training class would not only boost his confidence but help strengthen your bond. Tonka seeks a dog-savvy owner—experience with Shar-Peis would be ideal, but a readiness to learn about this unique breed is just as important. He's not looking for a perfect family, just the right one—someone who understands that patience and trust take time.
