About Kuromi

FRESNO, CA (CENTRAL CAL)- ID #A037260 - FRESNO ANIMAL CENTER- ONLY 37 LB, YOUNG FEMALE CHOW/SHIBA INU? X FOUND AS A STRAY– friendly, social, non reactive to other dogs at shelter so far 8/1 DEADLINE @4 pm- X URGENT, SHELTER IS FULL, will be euthanized soon for space; ADOPTABLE, ALTHOUGH LIKELY ALSO NEEDS RESCUE- FOSTER ALSO NEEDED ASAP Please help us find a loving home or foster and or rescue asap for this extremely urgent situation. According to the shelter, this beautiful girl was sadly found as a stray. They told us, “ Kuromi presents as friendly and social with people but when given freedom, is independent and prefers to wonder in the yard by herself. She has not shown any aggression with our staff or when within proximity of other dogs. We will try to attempt dog testing her for you but cannot guarantee it will be done today. Kuromi was picked up by our officers after a member of the public called in to report her attempting to attack their dog while on a construction site.“ However, “Upon arrival, our officer had no issues securing Kuromi and did not witness any aggressive behavior from her towards another dog. She has not had anyone come forward to reclaim her.” Shelter notes state, “Behavior with finder: RP stated that the dog is friendly with women and kids but does not like men or other dogs. Behavior observed during intake: Dog was wiggly allowed me to handle and vaccinate with no issues. Dog walked well on lead to kennel. Dog did not react to other dogs while walking pass them in their kennels.” Therefore, we believe she needs a slower intro with dogs, and may have just been starving before. Fondly named Kuromi by the shelter, they estimated she is 3 years young and weighs only 37 lbs. The also said, “she has no currently or noticeable medical concerns. We are also uncertain if she is shaved or if that is her natural fur length.“ She is listed as a chow mix, but may also have some shiba inu or even jindo in her due to her size, and possibly shorter fur, although she could have also been trimmed. They initially listed her incorrectly as part akita causing her to be very overlooked. We have requested a breed change from chow/akita mix to chow shiba inu or with jindo since she is smaller than the average chow even. We are hoping some responsible home can either step up or offer to foster for a rescue before it is too late. Rescues need a foster and a place for a dog to go, foster ideally should be local to the dog or a willing rescue. The shelter has let us know of her urgency and said, “Kumori has been available for adoption since her stray hold ended on 7/21/26” but “does have a deadline of 8/1/26 @ 4PM.” She will therefore likely be euthanized right afterwards if no one or no rescue steps up due to lack of space and high intake. We were given video and additional pictures that we will post online. If you can adopt directly in person, please contact the shelter immediately by calling 559-621-7387 & provide her ID.
