About Boots

Meet Boots! Named after his adorable white-tipped paws, Boots is a shepherd/spitz mix with a stunning warm gray coat. Though he’s around a year and a half old, he still has plenty of playful puppy energy at 50 pounds. Boots' journey began in Houston, TX, where he faced grim prospects after being placed on the euthanasia list shortly after arriving at the shelter as a stray. Fearful and avoidant of people, his chances were slim. Thankfully, Boots received a second chance, and with patience and care, he’s gradually emerging from his shell. Now fostered in St. Paul, Minnesota, he is learning the joys of home life. His foster mom reports that he’s doing wonderfully and gets along great with other dogs, which can help him feel more secure. While he can thrive in a multi-pet household, he would also do well as an only dog. This sweet and gentle boy is affectionate once he trusts you, though he can be shy initially. He shows his love through playful nibbles, and his foster mom is working on redirecting that with appropriate toys and training. Boots is intelligent and food-motivated, already picking up sit just by observing the other dogs in his foster home. Continued training and supervision will help him flourish, given his young age. He enjoys walks and playtime but can exhibit some prey drive with squirrels and rabbits. However, he quickly settles down and enjoys long naps afterward. Boots has been around cats without issues and, given his gentle demeanor, could potentially adapt well to families with respectful children, provided there are proper introductions. Boots has come a long way from his days as a frightened shelter dog. All he needs now is a patient, loving family to help him build confidence and discover how amazing life can be.
