About Athena
Athena is a 5-year-old Weimaraner who is currently with Iowa Weimaraner Rescue. She came to the rescue due to separation anxiety, a concern that her previous family had. Since arriving at her foster home in December 2025, she has made great strides and is doing well with the resident dogs, including a Weimaraner and a husky mix. Having experience with kids, she’s comfortable around them and enjoys their company. When meeting new people or dogs, Athena may be a bit shy at first, and it takes her time to adjust. Given her nervous disposition in new settings, she thrives better in a home with a calm canine companion. Separation anxiety remains a challenge; she can be alone for around four hours but becomes anxious if left for longer. Crate training has been a struggle, as she feels confined and responds vocally. Athena requires a home where someone is present most of the time, such as a stay-at-home parent or someone who works from home. She’s familiar with basic commands and walks well on a gentle lead, though curious about small animals. Overall, she’s a loving dog who just wants to be close to her people.
