About Boots
Meet Boots! Named for his adorable white-tipped paws, Boots is a shepherd/spitz mix with a warm gray coat that adds to his charm. This young male, around 12-18 months old and weighing about 50 pounds, is bursting with playful puppy energy. Boots' story began in Houston, TX, where he found himself on the euthanasia list at a crowded shelter after just two days as a stray. Initially terrified and avoidant of people, his chances of finding a home seemed slim. Fortunately, he was given a fresh start and has gradually begun to emerge from his protective shell with the right love and care. Currently fostered in St. Paul, Minnesota, Boots is adapting well to home life. He has shown a fantastic ability to get along with other dogs and would flourish in a home with a confident canine companion to guide him, though he's also capable of thriving as a solo pet. His gentle nature and affectionate side shine through once he establishes trust. He may be shy initially, but once he warms up, you might even receive playful nibbles as tokens of his affection—his foster mom is helping him channel this into appropriate chew toy use. Intelligent and food-motivated, Boots is eager to learn, already picking up commands by observing the other dogs. As an energetic and clever puppy, he will benefit from ongoing training and supervision to help him reach his full potential. Boots enjoys his walks, loves to play, and despite his prey drive towards squirrels and rabbits, he settles well afterward. A secure, fenced yard would be ideal for him, providing space for physical and mental enrichment. He has also been around cats and could do well with respectful children when introduced properly. Boots has come a long way from his days as a frightened shelter dog. With the right patient and loving family, he's ready to continue his journey towards confidence and happiness.
