Meet Declan, a remarkable German Shepherd Dog who has been part of our sanctuary for over three years. He was rescued from a kill shelter on the very day he was scheduled for euthanasia, and upon arrival, we found he had a ruptured left eye from previous trauma that necessitated removal. Initially, Declan struggled with misplaced aggression due to his rough history as a poorly trained guard dog. However, with patience and time, he has made consistent progress and is now ready to meet someone special, particularly a single woman who can appreciate his protective nature once bonded. Declan thrives in an indoor-outdoor setting, enjoying his patrols to keep things safe, but he must be kept secure, as he is strong and not suited for unsupervised encounters. While he walks decently with other dogs, he prefers to be the only pet in the home. His ideal adopter is calm, confident, and willing to invest time in acclimating to his needs with multiple visits and a home check to ensure a safe forever environment.
