About Sunshine

Meet Sunshine. This sweet girl is about 1 year old and weighs around 10 pounds. Originating from a challenging situation, she started life in a large hoarding environment with approximately 60 other Shih Tzus. As a result, much of the outside world is new and slightly intimidating for her, but each day she grows a little braver and more confident. Sunshine thrives when she has a solid canine companion. Her playful poodle mix friend has taught her that people can be trusted, that cozy laps exist, and that walks can bring joy. When her dog buddy hops onto the couch, you can bet Sunshine will follow, eager to join in on the fun. Her temperament is gentle and remarkably calm; she doesn’t bark or react negatively to stimuli. In fact, the cutest sounds she makes are soft, bird-like chirps. Sunshine prefers to observe rather than get involved in chaos, and she walks beautifully on a leash. Neighborhood strolls are a favorite, especially when she can explore grassy patches and trek alongside fellow furry friends. At home, she finds comfort relaxing on the couch, watching her surroundings. While loud or unfamiliar noises can still unsettle her momentarily, she recovers quickly, showing signs of resilience every day. Recently, she impressively managed to remain quiet during a dishwasher installation—a big step for a dog who once feared nearly everything. Food-wise, Sunshine enjoys chicken and peanut butter, and she has her quirks, like eating when no one is watching. She met a 9-month-old baby and, although caution set in initially, she gradually became curious, showing her capacity for trust. A calm environment would suit her best—one without very young children or with older kids who can respect her need for space. She has been sleeping quietly in her crate and manages to be left alone without trouble. Currently, she’s making strides in house training, despite recent medical challenges. With her urinary tract infection resolved and her spay scheduled for July 13, we expect her progress to continue upward. Witnessing Sunshine gradually embrace her world is a journey filled with reward. She will flourish with patience and understanding in a home with an established, confident dog. For the right family, the experience of watching her bloom will be truly special. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
