About Daphne & Daniella

Daphne (long haired tortoiseshell) and Daniella (short haired marbled tiger) are beautiful young sisters (DOB April 2025) who were rescued from a feral colony in Sanford, Maine. Having spent their entire lives outdoors with very little human interaction, they learned from their mother to be cautious and protective of themselves. When they first arrived at Safe Haven, they were understandably fearful, defensive, and unsure of the unfamiliar world around them. Because of the close bond they share, Daphne and Daniella must be adopted together. They are now searching for a patient and understanding forever home that is willing to continue the socialization journey they have already begun. These lovely girls were placed in a foster home with one of Safe Haven's experienced cat socializers, where they have been making steady progress. In the beginning, they rarely ventured from their hiding places and were extremely wary of people. Today, they are becoming increasingly comfortable in their surroundings and no longer rush to hide when someone enters the room. Both sisters have learned that people can bring wonderful things, including their favorite squeezable treats, which they now happily lick from a finger. They have even shown curiosity toward their foster family's grandchildren and have begun interacting with them. Daphne and Daniella are learning to accept gentle touch and frequently offer slow blinks - a heartwarming feline sign of trust and contentment. While they still may hiss or swat if approached too quickly, their progress has been remarkable, and each day brings another small victory. Daphne and Daniella are what we lovingly call "Project Cats" - special cats who need adopters willing to invest time, patience, and understanding as they continue to build confidence and trust. They will thrive with daily interaction, gentle encouragement, and a predictable routine. Like all shelter cats, they will need an adjustment period, but these sisters have already shown that they are capable of making meaningful connections when given the opportunity. The rewards of helping shy cats discover the joys of a loving home are truly immeasurable. Daphne and Daniella would do best in a quiet household where they can continue to blossom at their own pace and remain each other's source of comfort and security. If you have the patience to nurture these precious girls and celebrate each step forward, you will be rewarded with a bond unlike any other. Together, Daphne and Daniella are ready to begin the next chapter of their lives - with someone willing to believe in them. Both cats are currently in Foster Care in Wells and their adoption visits will be hosted in the home of foster.
