Denver's story almost didn't have a happy ending. This tiny little guy was surrendered to an emergency veterinary clinic in Memphis when he was critically ill with parvovirus, a devastating virus that affects puppies and is often fatal. Thankfully, Denver received treatment in time, fought hard, and came out the other side like a champ. The good news? Puppies who recover from parvo typically go on to live completely normal, healthy lives with no long-term effects. Today, Denver is safe, loved, and thriving in a foster home with a veterinary technician. He's gaining back the weight he lost, soaking up all the attention he can get, and proving every day that he's got a lot of life and love ahead of him. He's still a teeny little guy, but his personality is growing right along with him. Denver loves other small dogs and shares toys, beds, and attention beautifully. He doesn't mind cats, although he may bark at them from time to time just to let them know he's there. He's also done well around children, though like any small puppy, he should be supervised around toddlers. This curious little explorer loves leash walks, car rides, and checking out everything the world has to offer. He's playful, affectionate, and always ready for a game of tug-of-war, whether it's with another dog or his people. Denver is a smart boy, too. He's already well on his way to mastering potty training and does great in his crate as long as there's a cozy bed waiting for him inside. A home with a yard would be a dream come true for Denver. He loves to run around, stretch out in the sunshine, and then come inside for one of his signature extra-long naps. Because he is still completing his puppy vaccine series following his recovery, Denver will likely not be ready to travel to New England until late July so his vaccines can be properly spaced and completed. This little survivor has been through more than any puppy should, and now it's his turn to be cherished. If you're looking for a playful, loving, resilient new family member, Denver is ready to steal your heart. This requirement is for your benefit and your puppy's, so if you experience behavioral issues, you have a point of contact. PLEASE--Think long and hard before adopting a puppy. Consider the lifestyle change this puppy will come with. He cannot be crated for more than 3-4 hours until he's older. Puppy-proofing your home will be necessary. Puppies scratch and nip, so if you have small children, can they handle this? Training will be so crucial in this puppy's life. Do you have the time?
