Ms Potato Head is a female Domestic Shorthair cat who was taken in on 04/22/2026, arriving with two 3-day-old kittens in her care. Estimated to be about 2 years old, this grey-coated mama was found in a crate alongside other cats labeled "free." Despite the stressful circumstances, she has shown herself to be a devoted and attentive mother, staying close to her newborns and showing mild protectiveness over them. Per staff 4/30: "Ms. Potato Head approached the front of her kennel this morning to greet staff. She showed no signs of hissing or other aggressive behavior. This suggests that she may simply need additional time to build trust and become more comfortable with people." Per staff 4/29: "Ms. Potato Head ate treats out of staff's hand and moved towards the front of the kennel when door opened to put in some enrichment toys. She sniffed the toys while the kitten's nursed and was very interested in enrichment items." At intake, Ms Potato Head appeared physically healthy with a clean coat, clear eyes, and no signs of injury or illness. She weighed 4.6 lbs and was assessed to have an ideal body condition. She is currently unaltered and lactating as she nurses her kittens. While initially frightened and defensive when handled, her behavior has quickly softened-especially when offered treats-and she is described as bright, alert, and responsive. Her medical care is up to date, including rabies and FVRCP vaccinations, and she tested negative for panleukopenia. A microchip was placed at intake for identification. Overall, Ms Potato Head is a resilient young cat who, despite a rough start, is proving to be both a caring mother and a cat capable of warming up once she feels safe.
