Please ask an adoptions counselor for more information! Hi, it’s so nice to meet you! I’m Opal. What caught your attention about me first? Was it my striking blue eyes, or my silky and gorgeous coat? Did you just feel a connection you could not deny? I know I’m a gorgeous gal, and I wear it proudly- I wasn’t always like this! When I first came to Wayside, I had very bad allergies. I could not stop itching and my skin was raw and scabbed. My coat was in rough shape and I was missing hair in many places. I had lived in a home for several years, and they loved me so much. However, when I began to get worsening allergies, they lacked the funds to get my allergies under control. They made the heartbreaking decision to surrender me to Wayside so I could get the medical care I needed. It’s been a long process. Lots of vet visits, poking and prodding, and different medications. Luckily for me, I’ve been able to spend time with some awesome foster families while I get better. Now, I’m a whole new girl. My skin is healed and doesn’t bother me anymore. My coat has grown back in and is absolutely to die for. My allergies are almost non-existent with a daily medication (which I am great at taking, by the way!) and a special diet. While I’ve been in foster, it’s given my foster mom and I lots of time to get to know each other. We’ve discovered I LOVE playing and am quite agile when I get into it! I haven’t met a stranger and am happy to receive pets from anyone I meet. I am doing great with learning to get along with the cat in my foster home, though I’ll benefit from slow and proper introductions as I’m introduced to new pets! I know my medical needs will not be everyone’s cup of tea. However, I have no problem waiting for the perfect purrson; I know they’ll be worth the wait.
