Meet Gaia This very sweet 2-year-old torbie mama came to us from River Rouge with her tiny babies. When she first arrived, Gaia was in rough shape and clearly had not had an easy life. Thanks to good food, veterinary care, and the safety of a loving foster home, she has made an incredible turnaround and is now healthy, happy, and thriving. Gaia absolutely loves attention. One of her adorable quirks is giving tiny "love nibbles" when she's especially happy while being petted. She enjoys lounging around, soaking up affection, and living the relaxed indoor life she always deserved-far away from the dangers and uncertainty of life on the streets. Gaia is FIV-positive (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), and we know that can sound scary to some adopters, but the reality is often much more encouraging than people realize. Many FIV-positive cats live long, happy, and completely normal lives. With proper nutrition, regular veterinary care, and a safe indoor home, they can thrive for many years. A few things to know about FIV: FIV is not contagious to people, dogs, or other non-feline pets. It is primarily spread through deep bite wounds, not through sharing food bowls, litter boxes, grooming, or snuggling. Many FIV-positive cats safely live with other friendly cats without transmitting the virus. Because their immune systems can be more sensitive, it's important to monitor for illnesses and seek veterinary care if they become sick. Keeping FIV-positive cats indoors helps protect their health and reduces exposure to infections. What matters most is that Gaia is not defined by her FIV status. She is a loving, affectionate cat who wants exactly what every cat wants-a safe home, a soft place to nap, and people to love. Her diagnosis doesn't change the fact that she deserves a family of her own. Could Gaia be the missing piece of your family?
