About Henry Chestnut

Meet Henry Chestnut! Our handsome Shepherd/Carolina dog mix Henry is looking for his soulmate family! Henry's story with us started with a close call. He found himself on a crowded city shelter's euthanasia list through no fault of his own he was simply scared, and the shelter was out of space. Since being rescued, Henry has shown us that he is a resilient survivor with incredible potential for the right partner. At 7.5 years young, Henry has a very smooth energy! He is the ultimate "medium energy" companion: he's always up for a fun, structured walk, but he's just as happy to curl up indoors for a long nap once his mental and physical needs are met. What Makes Henry a Great Partner: Elite Training & Structure: Henry recently completed a premium board-and-train program and is an absolute star student! He is highly responsive to commands, handles beautifully on a leash, and thrives on routine. Bonus: Transition sessions with his training institute are included with his adoption so you can seamlessly step into his training routine! Crate Pro: He transitions in and out of his crate with absolute ease, making management in the home a breeze. The Ideal Home & Handler: Henry is a serious, smart dog who is looking for a working partnership rather than a casual pet dynamic. He is a sensitive soul who needs a special, patient handler to help him transition into home life. We are looking for an adopter who is on the active side and possesses the confidence and physical strength to handle a strong minded dog :-) Henry thrives when he has clear, unwavering boundaries and a savvy handler who reads canine body language well. Patience to Decompress (No Pressure): Henry needs a home that won't put immediate pressure on him to be social or overly affectionate. While he absolutely can develop an affectionate, playful side once a deep bond of trust is earned over time, he needs space first. His perfect match will let him just coexist, acclimate, and decompress at his own pace for the first few weeks. Dog Compatibility: Henry can live in a home with another dog, but it is not a casual pairing. It will require an adopter committed to a very patient, slow, and strictly managed introduction process. To adopt or foster to adopt Henry, submit your application at www.gwarp.org, and once you are done, text our volunteer Kerry at 646-209-4140. Note: Please do not submit inquiries or applications on Petfinder, as we do not receive them through this platform. Apply now to adopt this very special Henry Chestnut!
