AvailableAbout Max
OTHER PETS: Max hasn't seemed to enjoy the company of other dogs very much during his stay at TJO, but he doesn't mind as long as they're just passing by. He would likely be happiest as the only pet in the home, where he can feel safe and secure without the stress of animal interactions. [Should Be Only Pet] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. Max arrived at TJO with some medical concerns regarding the condition of his skin, and will likely do best with someone that has an established relationship with a vet. Currently his skin is looking much better, though it's still unclear what the main cause of the allergy was. [Some Experience] KIDS: While Max hasn't demonstrated any signs of resource guarding while at TJO, he tends to gently investigate things with his mouth first, and as an older dog can be sensitive to rough handling. He would likely do best in a home with older kids that can understand how to interact with him and when to let him have his own space. [15+ (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Max may be older, but he's still got plenty of spring in his step! He absolutely loves playing with toys--though he doesn't always bring them back--and would love the opportunity to just lay out in the grass on a warm, sunny day. A combination or regular/appropriate exercise combined with mental enrichment will help fully meet his needs. [Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: As an older dog, Max will likely need more frequent vet appointments to ensure that he continues to age gracefully. That, along with a possible skin allergy, means that he will likely require above average vet care, and would do best with someone that has an established relationship with a vet. [Above Average] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Max not only learn his basic cues & skills, but also help him to bond with his new owner while building confidence and having fun. [Minimal] GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to minimize shedding in the home. [Minimal]
