Hi, I'm Chiquita, a 7-year-old Chihuahua mix, weighing in at a perfectly portable 26 pounds. I have a beautiful soft white coat with gentle tan highlights and a personality that's much bigger than my Chihuahua roots would suggest. I get along well with dogs of all sizes, though I occasionally like to remind everyone that I am clearly in charge. . .even if they're three times my size. I'm happiest when I'm near my people. I don't have to be in your lap every second, but I do enjoy keeping an eye on you and hanging out in whatever room you're in. I handle separation just fine, but being your little shadow is one of my favorite hobbies. My energy level is moderate. I'm not training for a marathon, but I do enjoy exploring the yard, sniffing around, and checking out what the day has to offer. Most of all, I'm a sweet soul with a heart full of love. One look into my big eyes and you'll understand why my foster says I can melt a person faster than butter in a hot skillet. I'm house and crate trained and often choose to nap in an open crate during the day. Before settling down, I perform a very important quality-control inspection of my sleeping area. Whether it's a dog bed, crate, blanket, or spot beside you, I must fluff, arrange, and perfect it before laying down. It's part of my process, and honestly, people seem to think it's pretty entertaining to watch. I walk nicely on a leash, although if I catch an especially interesting smell, I may need a moment to investigate. Open the car door and I'll hop right in like a seasoned road-trip professional. Adventure? Count me in. Treats are another one of my specialties. Show me a snack and I'll stand up and beg like I've been training for the Puppy Olympics my entire life. Oh, did I mention, talk to me and I like to talk back, it's just precious! I do well with older children and enjoy attention from my people. I haven't been tested with toddlers. Cats are probably not my ideal roommates. They fascinate me a little too much, and if one runs, my brain immediately assumes it's a very large squirrel. My ideal home would be one where I can soak up plenty of one-on-one time with my person. I'd be perfectly happy as your only dog, but I could also do well with one or two canine companions.
