AvailableAbout Summer
Summer is a 10-year-old Dachshund/Terrier mix whose journey reflects resilience, healing, and the quiet transformation that comes with safety and care. She was found as a stray and brought into a public shelter in heartbreaking conditionsuffering from hair loss, fleas, bleeding skin, impaired vision in her left eye, and an abdominal mass. Despite everything she had endured, she was not overlooked. The shelter stepped in quickly, arranging for surgical removal of the mass and giving her a chance to stabilize and recover. As the days passed in the shelter, Summer healed physically but was still overlooked for adoption, eventually reaching a critical deadline date. Thats when she was rescued and brought into our care, where her second chance truly began. Since arriving, she has continued to receive the medical support and comfort she needs while slowly rediscovering what it means to feel safe. Summer is a true cuddle bug who loves affection and will happily stay close to her person, soaking up attention and companionship throughout the day. She is amazing with cats and fits gently into a calm home environment. As she has healed, her personality has blossomed more each day, revealing a soft, affectionate dog who is beginning to show joy in small but meaningful ways, including a sweet tail wag reserved just for her favorite humans. She enjoys leisurely walks and does best with patience and encouragement, moving at her own gentle pace. She is not a fan of grass and prefers harder surfaces when its time to go potty, often using potty pads more consistently for her business. For longer outings, she enjoys riding in a wagon to reach destinations, then exploring at her own comfort level once there. Summer is highly food motivated and enjoys her meals and treats with enthusiasm. Most of all, she is learning to trust, to bond, and to simply enjoy companionshipfinding comfort in routine, softness, and love. Summer is ready to find her person and begin the next chapter of her life in a loving home.
