About Opal

Opal came into rescue after her owner passed away, and the spouse didn't want her. For years, she lived tied to a chain on a front porch in the Houston heat. Despite this, Opal is house-trained and has exceptional manners indoors, suggesting she may have been a house dog at some point. At over eight years old, she has heartworms, but treatment is underway. Opal enjoys a bit of playtime in the yard with other dogs but mostly prefers to snuggle in her bed and relax. Food is her love language, and she's been gaining healthy weight since arriving at the rescue. With a striking brindle coat and possibly a mix of Shar-Pei and German Shepherd, Opal weighs about 60 pounds. She's well-adjusted in the house, uses a dog door, and doesn’t require crating when left alone. Opal would make an ideal companion for an elderly person seeking a gentle friend. While she's great with other dogs and children, she does not get along with cats or livestock. This gentle soul deserves the perfect family to shower her with love in her golden years.
