About Prairie

Prairie is a one-year-old gentle and playful sweetheart who is still learning to trust. This beautiful black Domestic Short Hair can be a bit shy when meeting new faces. Initially, she might greet you with a hiss, but don't be fooled. Once she recognizes that you mean no harm, she transforms into a loving cat, happily leaning into your hand for pets and purring away. Prairie enjoys treats and toys, which are great incentives to help her settle into her new home. Since she can be reserved in unfamiliar settings, it’s important for her adopters to be patient and offer a slow introduction. Starting her off in a large crate or a safe space and gradually introducing her to the rest of the house will help her feel secure. Prairie came to us with a damaged eye that required surgical removal. She's healed well and navigates her surroundings just fine with her remaining eye. She will thrive in a home with a confident, friendly adult cat to guide her and help her build confidence around people. Prairie prefers a dog-free environment without young children. If you find joy in earning the trust of a shy cat and watching her grow, Prairie could be the one for you. She’s ready to meet approved adopters at her foster home in Roslindale, MA.
