About Mercury
Mercury is a one-of-a-kind, high-energy Catahoula Leopard Dog mix looking for a home that understands his unique blend of curiosity and caution. At only about a year and a half old, he’s brimming with youthful energy and has a real drive to explore—he’s always eager to get moving, and his leash walks can be a bit of a workout. While not yet house trained, Mercury learns new things every day. He approaches new situations with some hesitation, communicating discomfort through stiff body language, but becomes more relaxed with the right approach and is especially responsive when toys are involved. Mercury does like to keep his prized toys to himself and will use body-blocking or gentle mouthing to signal when he needs space, though once his interest fades, they're easy to retrieve. With people, he may bark or act defensively at first, but he warms up with proper, respectful handling. Mercury prefers not to have his tail touched and can get over-excited after being alone, sometimes jumping or grabbing the leash in frustration. Mercury can be selective with other dogs—he may need a few slow introductions and can struggle to recover if he feels overwhelmed. He’s potentially a good match for families with kids around 14 and up, depending on the individual child. Mercury is currently in Williamsport, PA, waiting for a home that can match his energy and help him thrive with structure and patience. They are waiting with paws crossed! Apply now!
