Dixy is a young female Labrador Retriever/mixed breed in Tucson, AZ. She falls within the medium size range and is not spayed. She's known for being a bit shy in new surroundings but deeply affectionate once settled.

About Dixy

Dixy is a 2-year-old chocolate Lab mix in urgent need of a new home. Right now, Dixy is overwhelmed by the loud shelter environment and can be shy or wary with new people, but give her time and you'll discover a playful and silly dog who loves toys and thrives on affection from the people she trusts. She's great with children and knows her basic commands, as well as how to walk on a leash. Dixy does her best in a calm, predictable home where she is the only pet—past altercations with other dogs have shown she's not suited for multi-dog households. She did reportedly bite her owner when they tried to break up a dog fight, so a household with experience and willingness to follow a careful management plan is necessary. She needs slow introductions to new people, careful walks (think quiet routes with minimal distractions), and a patient approach that lets her decompress and open up at her own pace. Expect to secure her in another room or crate during busy household moments or when visitors arrive. Muzzle training is strongly recommended for her safety and comfort. Dixy is looking for someone with the patience, time, and desire to help her gain confidence—if you fit the bill, you’ll gain a loyal friend for life. Your new best friend is just one click away.
