About Sheldon
Sheldon comes from a puppy mill background, so he’s new to just about everything in regular home life. He’s lived around plenty of other dogs but hasn’t been socialized with people, and daily routines like walking on leash, navigating doorways, or meeting visitors are all unfamiliar territory. House training is likely to take time—crates often help, both for housebreaking and to give Sheldon a secure place of his own. He’ll do best with patience, calm, and gentle structure. Early on, it’s important to limit busy environments and lots of new faces, letting Sheldon adjust at his own pace. Because of his past, he might be overwhelmed at first, but he responds to positive reinforcement, especially when food is involved. Harsh training methods won’t work for him, but treat-based approaches go a long way. Adopters should expect gradual progress as Sheldon settles in, but the reward for building trust will be worth it. Sheldon is shy and needs someone with the time and willingness to patiently help him adjust. He’s smart and motivated by treats, which can be a huge asset during training. For safety, a fenced yard is essential for Sheldon since he doesn’t yet walk on leash, and he’ll need to go home on a martingale collar. If you have kids nine or younger, Wayside recommends bringing them in for an introduction beforehand, so everyone gets off to a good start. Your new best friend is just one click away.
