About Riggs
Riggs is a 3-year-old Australian Shepherd in West Valley City, Utah, now fostered in Coarsegold, CA, who’s ready for a new beginning after a tough start. Weighing in at a smart, athletic 30 pounds, he’s the epitome of Aussie energy—clever, goofy, and loyal—but also sensitive. Riggs is house trained, crate trained, and leash trained, with an impressive list of commands under his belt. His kennel is his comfort zone, and he's well-behaved when left alone there, but like many bright dogs, he’ll make his own fun (raiding garbage cans, liberating zippers or buttons) if unsupervised. He plays well with other dogs and gets along with cats. He’s even peacefully coexisted with chickens, only occasionally giving chase. New people may get a cautious bark and need a little time to earn his trust. But after a few minutes, Riggs usually opens up: affectionate, eager for attention, and generous with kisses—his long tongue is legendary. He’s happiest in a routine, greeted by favorite people with classic butt wiggles and a full-body wag. Due to his history and a bite incident when frightened, Riggs needs experienced owners who understand canine boundaries and can commit to patient, structured introductions. He’s best suited to homes with older, respectful kids who’ll give him space, especially around his kennel and food. When Riggs feels safe, he’s playful and deeply bonded, but he doesn’t like being crowded or rushed by strangers. Riggs craves consistency and understanding. With that, you’ll have a loyal, fun-loving companion who thrives on connection and routine. He’s got all it takes to be a devoted best friend—he’s just waiting for someone willing to meet him where he is. What are you waiting for? Apply today!
