Well, this Trapper Keeper operates on the exact same principle. Once he picks his favorite person, he's sticking with them. This adorable 3-4 month old wire-haired Dachshund mix weighs 11 pounds and came to DPS from a shelter. He's pretty sure he's the cutest thing on four legs, and honestly, it's hard to argue with him. With his confident attitude, endless charm, and puppy-dog devotion, Trapper has quickly become the kind of dog who steals hearts wherever he goes. A Day in the Life of Trapper Keeper Trapper starts his day between 6:30 and 7:30 AM and immediately heads outside for a potty break. He's become wonderfully consistent with his routine and takes his morning responsibilities very seriously. Breakfast follows shortly after, and then it's time for one of Trapper's favorite activities: supervising his humans. While his people work, Trapper happily rotates between the various dog beds around the house, squeezing in plenty of naps while keeping a watchful eye on his favorite person. When boredom strikes, he'll gather up toys and present them for consideration, just in case anyone is interested in a play session. If not, that's okay too. He can always fit in another nap. Lunch arrives around noon, followed by more playtime, more exploring, and—naturally—more napping. Dinner is served around 6:30 PM, and by bedtime, Trapper has usually negotiated his way onto the human bed despite having perfectly good dog beds available throughout the house. He considers this a successful conclusion to another productive day. Double Velcro Dog You may have heard the term 'Velcro dog.' Trapper would like to introduce a new category: Double Velcro Dog. From the moment he arrived, he chose his favorite human and made his intentions clear. Wherever that person goes, Trapper would very much like to go too. If that's not possible, he'd at least like to maintain visual contact at all times. In fact, he prefers having his favorite person nearby while he eats. If they wander off, Trapper may pause his meal until proper supervision has resumed. Fortunately, he's flexible enough to spread his affection around the household when necessary. While he definitely has a favorite, he's happy to seek out cuddles, pets, and companionship from everyone. His philosophy seems to be: 'The more people available to adore me, the better.' Confident, Relaxed, and Completely Adorable One of the most remarkable things about Trapper is how quickly he settled into foster life. New house? No problem. New dogs? Fine by him. New routines? He's got it covered. Nothing seems to rattle this little guy. He carries himself with an easy confidence that's unusual for a puppy his age. While many puppies spend weeks adjusting, Trapper arrived ready to enjoy life. His foster family describes him as incredibly relaxed, gentle, and easygoing. He simply assumes everything is going to work out—and so far, he's been right. Toy Collector and Professional Explorer Trapper approaches toys the same way an archaeologist approaches a newly discovered treasure. Every toy he finds is the most exciting thing he's ever seen. He'll proudly carry his latest discovery around the house, showing it off before inevitably discovering something even more fascinating five minutes later. Watching him investigate the toy basket is pure entertainment. The excitement, the curiosity, and the sheer delight on his face make every toy feel brand new. When nap time rolls around, he'll often bring a favorite toy with him, just in case he needs it later. Life With Other Dogs Trapper currently lives with two small resident dogs and has done wonderfully with both. Jackie welcomed him immediately, and the two enjoy playing together. Jasper is a little more selective about his friendships, but that hasn't stopped Trapper from politely checking in every now and then to see whether Jasper's opinion has changed. (So far, the answer is usually 'not yet.') Trapper reads canine social cues remarkably well for a puppy. If another dog isn't interested in playing, he respects their boundaries and moves on. House Training and Puppy Manners Trapper is doing an excellent job learning household routines. He understands where he's supposed to potty and consistently seeks out the same designated potty area indoors if he needs it. His foster family jokes that he double-checks and triple-checks to make sure he's found exactly the right spot before taking care of business. He's crate trained, has never needed a pen, and has shown wonderful household manners for such a young puppy. Like most puppies, he enjoys chew sticks, but he isn't destructive and doesn't spend his days looking for trouble. A Bark Bigger Than His Body One of Trapper's funniest quirks is his voice. Most of the time, he's surprisingly quiet. When the resident dogs are barking at passing strangers, delivery drivers, or mysterious neighborhood activity, Trapper often looks at them as if to say, 'Really? We're doing this again?' But when he decides something is worth announcing—such as a beloved human arriving home—he unleashes a deep, bass-heavy bark that sounds like it belongs to a dog several times his size. The first time you hear it, you'll probably check to see if another dog has entered the room. Trapper's Perfect Home The wonderful thing about Trapper is that he could fit into almost any loving home. Families, singles, couples, experienced dog owners, first-time adopters—Trapper is adaptable enough to thrive in many different situations. His only real requirement is that he gets to choose a favorite human. Once that important decision has been made, he'll happily adjust to the rest. Why You'll Fall in Love It's easy to fall for Trapper's adorable face. Or his puppy enthusiasm. Or his hilarious confidence. Or the way he proudly parades around with his latest toy discovery. Or his surprisingly deep bark. Or the fact that he genuinely seems to believe the world is a wonderful place and everyone in it is probably a friend. But what you'll remember most is how deeply he loves his people. Trapper Keeper isn't just a puppy. He's a loyal sidekick, a professional cuddler, a toy enthusiast, and a tiny shadow who wants nothing more than to be near the people he loves. And if you're lucky enough to become his favorite human, prepare to have a very devoted little companion for years to come.
