Meet Roxie and Dracoâa mother and daughter duo who've spent their lives in survival mode instead of comfort. Roxie, the darker, 7-year-old mama, and Draco, her lighter, 6-year-old daughter, are Beagle/Shepherd mixes. Draco was born bow-legged, but that doesnât stop her from sticking by her momâs side. She cannot live with cats. These girls were picked up as strays; when their owner came forward, he surrendered them. They arrived in heartbreaking shape: nails curled under their paws, patches of missing hair, tired bodies, and the signs of years spent without the basics of care. Both currently live outdoors due to an overcrowded shelter, finding solace together in their doghouse or snuggled in a makeshift "pool bed". Theyâre gentle and sweet, take treats politely, and walk calmly on leashesâalways together. Volunteers can walk them side by side, and soon both will get much-needed "pedicures." They do bark at other dogs that approach, but whether thatâs actual aggression or just stress from the noisy, chaotic environment isnât clear. What is clear is their deep reliance on each other, so they need to be adopted as a pair. These arenât puppies or trendy breeds; theyâre older girls with worn coats and big, sad eyes. Still, they deserve a chance at love, comfort, and a home. Roxie and Draco just need one person willing to show them what a real home feels like.
