Meet #Roxxie & #Draco A mother and daughter that have clearly spent their entire lives surviving instead of truly living. Roxxie, the darker girl, is the mama at 7 years old. Draco, the lighter colored girl, is her 6-year-old daughter. Both are Beagle/Shepherd mixes. Draco was born bow-legged, but she still happily waddles alongside her mama everywhere she goes. Draco also cannot live with cats. These girls were found as strays, and when their owner eventually came forward, they were surrendered to HHPP. The condition they arrived in was heartbreaking. Their nails were curled underneath their paws, they are missing hair, worn down, exhausted, and it is painfully obvious they have never really known proper care or comfort. Because the shelter is so overcrowded right now, they are unfortunately staying outside. They find comfort curled up together inside their doghouse, and volunteers recently put a little kiddie pool outside with blankets in it for them. The girls absolutely love laying together in their little “pool bed” soaking up the sunshine. Despite everything they have endured, they are very sweet girls. They take treats gently, walk nicely on leashes, and volunteers are able to walk them together at the same time. We are planning on giving them both little pedicures soon so walks are easier and more comfortable for them. They do bark at dogs that come near them, but honestly, we do not know if that is true dog aggression or simply the stress and overstimulation of shelter life. Everything here is loud, chaotic, and overwhelming. They seem to rely heavily on one another for comfort, which is why we are trying very hard to keep them together. And you know… we understand that people usually are not rushing out to submit applications for two older girls that clearly have not had the best care. They are not tiny puppies. Or the Doodles, or the yorkies that everyone is messaging the page for , they come with sad eyes, rough coats, worn-down bodies, and a lifetime of neglect written all over them. But they deserve love too. Honestly, all we need is one person. Just one person willing to commit to them. One person willing to give them a soft place to land and finally show them what a real home feels like.
