Mabel ❤️ When I decided to foster my first puppy, everyone told me I was crazy. They said it would be too hard and that I would get too attached. They were probably right about the attached part, but Mabel is exactly why I wanted to start this journey. She has only been with us for a few days, but watching her settle in and gain confidence has been pure magic. We recently attended our first adoption event together, and Mabel quickly decided her role was not to be one of the puppies causing trouble. Instead, she appointed herself the referee. While the other puppies wrestled and stirred up chaos, she seemed determined to make sure everyone behaved. It was impossible not to laugh watching this tiny puppy march over to supervise the fun and restore order. At home, she has proven to be just as sweet as she is entertaining. It took her a little time to warm up to the cats, but now she seeks one of them out for cuddles whenever she gets sleepy. She enjoys playing with her foster sister Georgie, but their personalities could not be more different. Georgie believes life should be lived at full speed, preferably while making questionable decisions. Mabel, on the other hand, seems to have a natural instinct to keep things calm. More than once, she has decided she has had enough excitement and quietly put herself in her crate to practice the art of relaxation while Georgie continued perfecting the art of being an absolutely adorable menace. She has also been wonderful with her crate from day one. She naps in there by choice, sleeps through the night without a peep, and has not had a single accident in it. We have only had a couple of accidents in the house, and I am pretty sure those were the result of me still learning her signals rather than any fault of hers. Mabel loves people and wants to be wherever her humans are. She follows me from room to room, happily keeping me company throughout the day. She is brave, curious, and surprisingly fearless for a puppy who is still figuring out how to grow into her oversized paws. That said, she is still getting used to how loud the world can be. Sometimes a new sound catches her by surprise and she comes running to me for reassurance. Once she realizes everything is okay, she checks to see what Georgie is doing and then bounds off after her to investigate. Watching her work up the courage to explore something new is one of my favorite things about her. And if all of that was not enough, she has the cutest little gremlin grunt that she uses whenever she sits next to me while I am working and decides she is not receiving the level of attention she deserves. Mabel has so much love to give and would make an incredible addition to almost any family. In just a few short days, she has completely stolen my heart, and I have a feeling she will do the same to whoever is lucky enough to call her their own.
