About Benny

Benny is a small, lively Chihuahua/Heeler mix with a strong personality. He weighs about 22 lbs and ended up at the rescue after being found as a stray. He was previously adopted but returned after nine months because he simply does not like men, regardless of efforts to help him adjust. Benny has a notable cattle dog streak—he’ll nip at feet and lower legs, especially around doorways, making him unsuited for homes with young children. He’s been okay with some cats but not others, so a cat-free home is the safest bet. Benny does, however, get along beautifully with other dogs of all sizes and both sexes, and might do best in a home with a playful dog companion to match his high energy. If you’re a woman looking for an energetic, loyal sidekick who loves to play and already knows his way around the house, Benny could be a great fit. He is house trained, neutered, and up to date on vaccines. He’s located in Wetumpka, AL and is searching for a home that understands his boundaries and his natural herding instincts. Questions about Benny

  • What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?

Benny's Chihuahua/Australian Cattle Dog mix background means he thrives in an environment where he can get plenty of activity and engagement. He does best in a women-only, cat-free home, ideally with another playful dog and adults who understand herding breeds.

  • How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?

Benny benefits from a secure backyard or access to regular walks, as his Australian Cattle Dog side craves physical activity. Even though he's small, he enjoys space to run and play.

  • Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?

Benny should not go to a home with young children—his herding instinct leads him to nip at feet and lower legs, which could be tough for kids to handle or understand.
