ELLA is a calm, loyal, easygoing companion Aussie who would love a quieter home with mature Aussie-experienced owners. She is very laid back, affectionate, obedient, and happiest being close to her people throughout the day. Ella loves being petted and leash walks that aren’t too long; she’s more of a homebody and a cuddler. We think she missed the memo on “How To Be An Australian Shepherd” because she’s never been very interested in playing catch and is definitely NOT a high-energy dog who needs constant activity! Another reason for this is that Ella is actually 75% Australian Shepherd, and 25% Bernese Mountain Dog, but she’s absolutely full grown at a perfect medium sized 40 pounds. Ella is fully house trained and has excellent house manners. She does not have accidents inside and will either stare at you or wait by the back door when she needs to go out. She is used to having a backyard and would do best in a home with a secure yard, although she can go potty on leash when needed. She is very Aussie-like when loving to be right underfoot while someone is cooking, just in case a snack happens to fall her way. She is also a good little “package alert” dog and will bark to let you know someone is at the door or an Amazon delivery has arrived. She is affectionate with visitors, especially men, and enjoys greeting people when they come over. Ella is not really a kid-focused dog and tends to ignore children rather than engage with them, so a home with no young children would be best. Older, respectful kids over 12 may be considered. She may do well with another compatible dog, but she has never lived with cats so it’s probably not a good idea to start now! Her ideal home would be one that is calm and loving with stable owners, a backyard, and people who appreciate a sweet, loyal dog who wants to be near them without being demanding.
