About Boots

Boots is named for his eye-catching white-tipped paws, but there’s a lot more to him than good looks. This medium-coated, warm gray shepherd/spitz mix is about 12–18 months old and weighs in at a sturdy, athletic size. His journey started rough in Houston, landing on a euthanasia list after just two days as a stray. He was terrified, kept to himself, and barely had a shot, but second chances do happen. With time and a patient foster in St. Paul, Boots has begun to figure the home life out. These days, he’s becoming a proper house dog. He gets along very well with other dogs, picking up social hints fast. He’d thrive with a confident canine role model but can also be an only dog. Despite a shy streak with new people, once Boots warms up, he’s sweet, gentle, and honestly a bit goofy—he shows love with little "nibbles," something his foster is actively redirecting with toys and positive reinforcement. Boots is clever, observant, and food motivated. He already learned "sit" by watching the older dogs. He’ll need continued training and consistency—he’s young, energetic, and still figuring things out. He likes walks, playtime, and yes, squirrels get his attention, but he recovers quickly for a solid nap. He’ll do best with a securely fenced yard and regular enrichment. He has done fine around cats and would likely get along with gentle, respectful kids, as long as introductions are handled thoughtfully. After everything, Boots is ready for a home that will let him keep gaining confidence—the biggest ask is patience and kindness. What are you waiting for? Apply today!
