About Athena
Athena lands in the Houston Boxer Rescue crew with classic big dog energy and a laid-back streak. Her dark brindle coat sets her apart, and despite her queenly looks, Athena prefers the comforts of lounging and hanging with her people to any sort of training school. She’s friendly, polite in the house, and happiest snuggled on a big, plush bed. Athena has a quiet temperament—rarely barks, never jumps up, and showers her humans with slobbery kisses. She settles well in a kennel, too, and will diligently follow you around, hoping for a snack or bit of affection. This girl blends easily with calm dogs of any size, earning her instant respect from her foster siblings. She’s playful with toys (and, occasionally, socks), and so far, she’s been easy around other dogs and nonchalant about cats in passing. Athena is learning house manners quickly and enjoys her walks, ambling beside you without fuss or drama. Once a street pup, she’s working on gaining weight and will likely fill out to a solid 80 pounds given regular meals. She’s heartworm positive but has already started treatment. Athena craves a calm home, regular snacks, and an adopter who enjoys relaxed walks and long stretches of downtime. She could thrive as the only dog or with other mellow companions. Athena is ready to be someone’s gentle, oversized couch potato. Click apply and let the tail-wagging begin!
