Meet Shadow! Shadow is an approximately 2.5-year-old handsome, athletic boy weighing around 65–70 pounds. Based on his appearance, temperament, and characteristics, we believe he is primarily a German Shepherd/American Staffordshire Terrier/American Pit Bull Terrier mix, possibly with a few other breeds sprinkled in. The result is an incredibly intelligent, loyal, expressive, and affectionate companion with both the brains and devotion of a shepherd combined with the loving, people-oriented nature of bully breeds. Shadow is truly a BIG personality dog with an even bigger heart. He is goofy, hilarious, expressive, and incredibly talkative. He has opinions about everything and is not shy about sharing them. Whether he’s making funny noises, giving dramatic looks, or using his entire body to communicate excitement, Shadow has a way of constantly making people laugh. He absolutely knows he is a large, strong dog and sometimes uses his body like a giant lovable wrecking ball without even realizing it. Despite his goofy side, Shadow is an extremely smart and obedient dog who forms deep bonds with his people. He thrives on companionship and genuinely wants to be involved in every part of his human’s life. Walks, car rides, patio hangs, errands, lounging on the couch — Shadow simply wants to be where his people are. He is very food motivated, eager to learn, and responds well to redirection and structure. He walks nicely on leash overall and can usually be redirected easily when distractions arise. Shadow is very social with people and has done well around other dogs overall. He enjoys being around others and is generally a well-socialized dog. However, in highly stimulating situations — especially around dogs that are reacting aggressively, barking intensely, or fighting — Shadow can become overly aroused and may involve himself in the commotion if his attention is not redirected quickly. He is not typically the instigator and does not go looking for conflict, but when chaos erupts around him, he can become overstimulated and reactive if not properly guided through the situation. Because of this, Shadow would do best with an adopter who understands structure, dog behavior, boundaries, and how to properly manage arousal levels and overstimulation. Shadow is an active, intelligent dog who needs both physical exercise and mental stimulation to truly thrive. Daily walks, structure, consistency, enrichment toys, and continued training are important for him. Like many intelligent dogs, if Shadow becomes bored or under-stimulated, he may find his own entertainment. Food left unattended on counters? That becomes fair game in Shadow’s mind. He is clever, curious, and absolutely capable of getting himself into harmless mischief if not properly supervised. At his core, Shadow is an incredibly loyal, affectionate, and devoted dog who loves deeply and bonds hard with his humans. He is the type of dog who will follow you from room to room, happily join you on adventures, make you laugh daily, and become your constant companion. With the right guidance, consistency, and outlet for his mind and energy, Shadow will absolutely flourish into an amazing lifelong best friend. Shadow is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.
